Friends of Loudoun Mental Health

Mission

The mission of Friends of Loudoun Mental Health is to drive back the darkness afflicting so many of our fellow citizens in Loudoun County. We are a volunteer driven, community based, non-profit organization that helps those suffering from mental illness better their lives by providing assistance for living arrangements, advocating on their behalf for improved care and resources, and promoting recovery and community awareness.

Profile

Since our founding in 1955, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health has had a long and sustaining impact in Loudoun County. Friends of Loudoun Mental Health provides assistance, awareness and advocacy for mental health issues to people living in Loudoun County. Friends of Loudoun Mental Health maintains all programs and outreach through collaboration and volunteer assistance.

Our programs include:

A Place To Call Home - which is a homelessness prevention program.

A Helping Hand - provides assistance for home related bills such as a utility bill. Representative Payee - helps recipients who have difficulty managing their finances.

Friends Being Friends - is a collaborative program with local churches to provide social opportunities for people living with mental illness.

Our community outreach programs include:

Powder Puff - involves two local high schools to raise awareness about teen suicide prevention.

In Our Own Voice - in partnership with NAMI where people make presentations about their story and recovery.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month - in partnership with the Loudoun County Public Library presents programs to provide information, inspiration and encourage open dialogue about mental health issues.

Suicide Loss Support Group - meets monthly for support and friendship.

We also work diligently and continually with the Board of Supervisors and other elected officials for needed resources and changes that need to be made in our community.
