Friends of Loudoun Mental Health

Specific Need

  • Friends of Loudoun Mental Health provides housing assistance to Loudoun County residents in need.  As housing costs have risen in recent years, our monthly housing assistance has also increased to $500 per month.  Expansion of the program is being considered.
  • In addition to rental/mortgage assistance, Friends also has a program that will cover other household expenses such as utilities and other needs.
  • Friends of Loudoun Mental Health is concerned with the mental health of children in our community. Therefore, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health is examining working with Loudoun County Public Schools to design and install Wellness Rooms for students.   Wellness rooms offer a promising solution to the pressing issue of declining mental health among students. Recognizing that mental well-being is fundamental to academic success, schools adopting this approach have observed improvements in students' emotional regulation and problem-solving skills, leading to a reduction in behavioral incidents.
  • Consider a donation of:
    • $20.24 for this year
    • $68.00 for the number of years we have provided support to the Loudoun County Community
    • $100 toward supplies for the Wellness Rooms
    • $500.00 for 1 month of rental assistance

Profile

Friends of Loudoun Mental Health connects those affected by mental illness to financial, health, and educational resources, while treating these individuals with compassion and respect, as we raise community awareness of their needs.

We have three programs currently to assist those going through mental health treatment (either through the county services or private services, depending on the program) to ease some of the pressure in their lives.

  • A Place to Call Home provides rental assistance to those going through the county for mental health services.
  • A Helping Hand program will cover other household expenses, such as utilities and other needs. Again, this will ease the burden on those who need assistance, particularly those going through the county for mental health services.
  • Contractors Care partners with local home services companies to provide services and repairs for the homes of those receiving either county or private mental health care. These fees are highly reduced to increase the quality of life at home.
  • Suicide Loss Support Group virtually meets monthly as a safe space for those left behind to heal and support each other.
  • Suicide Bereavement 4 Teens is a monthly meeting/support group for teens aged 13-19
  • We have additional ideas whose project plans are still being developed, including, but not limited to, helping LCPS students on different levels and extending the reach of A Place to Call Home.
  • Over the last nine years, Friends of Loudoun Mental Health has provided:
  • ·Over $312,956 in Rental Assistance to Loudoun Families
  • ·Over 875 months of Housing Subsidies
  • ·Supported over 236 Loudoun Families
