Lucketts Ruritan Club

Goal: $20,000.00

Specific Need

The Lucketts Ruritan Club has been supporting the community north of Leesburg - "from the split to the bridge and from the river to the ridge" for 41 years!  As part of our charter, we raise funds through community service activities to provide assistance where needed within Lucketts. The year 2020 is shaping up to be challenging with new or increased "gaps" emerging as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.  Our community partners often come to us for funds to help local families in need.  In the coming months we know that more and more local families will need their help. Through GiveChoose, we are asking the community to help us raise $20,000 to close these gaps as they emerge in the coming months.

A GROUP OF LUCKETTS RURITAN CLUB MEMBERS HAVE PLEDGED AN ADDITIONAL $3,000 CHALLENGE GRANT IF THE COMMUNITY HELPS US REACH OUR $20,000 GiveChoose GOAL!   IF WE REACH OUR GOAL WE WILL HAVE A MINIMUM OF $23,000 TO COMMIT TO THE FOLLOWING LOCAL NEEDS IN THE COMING MONTHS.

Food and Critical Supplies
Our Club was instrumental in helping to start the monthly Lucketts Food Pantry operated jointly by Loudoun Hunger Relief and Faith Chapel.  Should they become short on funds and donations later this year, we want to be there to close the gap by supplementing with our funds. There are new “must haves” for every family in our community as we adjust to the Covid-19 environment.  For example, disinfectant wipes, facial masks and cleaning supplies will be necessities.  As our community works together to make sure everyone has what they need, your donation will directly help our club fill this gap.

  • Your $20 donation would help feed a family for another day.
  • Your $100 donation feeds them for another week.
  • Your $500 donation helps a family get the food and critical cleaning supplies they need for a month.

Emergency Assistance

We receive calls from our local churches, our community center, our parent liaison network and our social service organizations to help them provide emergency assistance (for overdue rent, utilities and other critical expenses) to families that meet their standards for receiving support.  Due to Covid-19 more families will qualify for this type of assistance.  We anticipate our partners will be turning to us more often for our financial support.  With your help we will be able to respond when called on by these local partners.

  • Your $50 donation pays a water bill.
  • Your $500 donation pays the overdue utility bill and keeps the heat on in a home.
  • Your $1000 donation help to pay the rent for one month for a family out of work.

Critical Needs of Children and Those Who Teach Them

All of our children have had their intellectual, social and emotional development interrupted as they have stayed home with us.  Our families and teachers will face new challenges when school resumes in the future.  Our school staff and PTA organizations are quick to meet these challenges but the funds to implement solutions are often lacking.  We want to be ready to close the intellectual, social and emotional gaps Covid-19 has created for our youth.

  • Your  $50 donation will pay for school supplies for a student whose parents are facing financial hardships.
  • Your $100 donation can provide two hours of teacher-lead after school remedial education for up to 40 students.
  • Your $500 donation can cover sports and activity fees for students whose parents can no longer afford them.

By charter, the Lucketts Ruritan Club must give back to our local community.  As a 501C(3) your donation to us through GiveChoose is fully tax deductible.  As a volunteer organization with no paid staff or building to operate, your donation goes straight back to support our community.  We are accountable to you, our donor, for the stewardship we demonstrate with your contribution. In addition to receiving your tax-deductible receipt from the Community Foundation, the Lucketts Ruritan Club will provide all donors with a special report at year-end showing how we distributed our GiveChoose contributions.  Thanks for your support!

Mission

The mission of the Lucketts Ruritan Club is to engage the community in the care of the community. Through community service, fellowship and good we build on what is best about Lucketts and make it the best place for all to live.

Profile

The Lucketts Ruritan Club is part of a national organization founded Virginia in 1928 that today has over 25,000 members serving over 900 communities across America. “Ruritan” is a combination of the Latin words for open country "ruri" and small town "tan," interpreted as pertaining to rural and small town life. Since the organization's beginning, Ruritan Clubs have served their neighbors through Fellowship, Goodwill, and Community Service. Ruritan's purpose is to create a better understanding among people and through volunteer community service, make America's communities better places in which to live and work. Unlike most civic service organizations, Ruritan Clubs rarely have national programs. Rather, each club surveys its own community for needs and then works to meet some of those needs.

The Lucketts Club was founded in 1979 and has taken on a number of large projects that continue to serve the community today.

  • We were a key contributor to the restoration of the Old Lucketts School that now serves as the Lucketts Community Center.  History was preserved while new and important programs were added by the Center to residents of Lucketts.
  • Hundreds of local families do not have curbside trash collection and must dispose of trash at the County’s Landfill and Recycling center a 30 minute ride away off of evergreen Mill Road south and east of Leesburg. The Lucketts weekly Saturday morning trash and recycling service at Lucketts Elementary School saves residents this trip while raising funds that go directly back into supporting the Lucketts community.
  • The Scholarship and Youth Development Grant Program of the Club recognize our local youth and contribute to their development before and after high school graduation.  Hundreds of thousand of dollars have been “invested” by the Lucketts Club in our children and young adults. In 2019 the Club awarded more than $16,000 in post-graduation scholarships and made its first Youth Development Grants totaling more than $3,000.
  • The Club publishes Lucketts News & Notes, which chronicles the people, programs and places that make Lucketts a vibrant and diverse community.  It is the only publication that is fully focused on community life in Lucketts.
  • Every year the Lucketts Ruritan Club financially supports through annual donations virtually every non-profit organization that serves our community.  In 2019 this amounted to over $15,000.
