JK Community Farm

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

Access to a healthy diet is a priority for reducing chronic diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Food education helps people to understand the journey of what they are eating, and why they are eating it. Food education is about promoting the education of nutrition in schools to promote healthy eating and the greater understanding of the food system among children. Help us improve the quality of life for our friends and neighbors.

JK Moving Services will be matching all donations to the JK Community Farm during Give Choose up to $10,000!

Healthy food a human right. Help us ensure access to chemical free food for members of our community!

Mission

Providing the community with food education, and people in need with fresh, organic, fruit, vegetables, and protein.

Profile

The JK Community Farm promotes food security, and sustainable agriculture locally though education, community outreach, and the donation of organic, chemical-free produce and protein. Founded in 2018, the JK Community Farm is an 150 acre farm which is designed to alleviate hunger by growing and donating crops and livestock. .

In 2018, with the help of 1,100 volunteers, we grew 32,000 pounds of chemical free produce on 4 acres and 50,000 pounds of all-natural protein including beef, pork and venison. Our crops alone helped make 25,000 healthy meals for those facing food insecurity. In 2019, the JK Community Farm will expand to 7 acres and grow 63,000 lbs of chemical free produce, and 50,000 lbs of protein to donate to people facing food insecurity throughout Loudoun and Fairfax counties.

Food from the JK Community Farm is distributed through partnerships with local food pantries such as Loudoun Hunger Relief. Beyond producing food, the farm is a destination for workforce training, field trips on food education, and corporate team building; it is a venue to educate people of all ages about food justice, cooking, gardening, and nutrition. We want all future generations in our community to be cognizant of the importance of food, where it came from, and how it can impact your health.

In coming years, we intend to expand our yield to provide healthy food to the food insecure in Blueridge and into DC. 100% of every contribution to the JK Community Farm goes toward growing fresh, chemical-free food for the food insecure.
