Legacy Farms Virginia

Goal: $5,000.00

Specific Need

We have a matching grant! Turn your $100 donation into $155!

When you donate between now and May 1st, your $100 donation will be matched with an additional $55, turning the total donation into $155! Our donor will match 55 cents for every dollar made up to $550, and if we meet our goal, this will provide an additional $302 to fund our programs!

What will your donation, and this matching grant, do for Legacy Farms?

  • Help pay for installation of cold frames and/or reinstallation of our greenhouse which was destroyed this spring in the windstorm that also knocked out power with blasts of wind exceeding 80 mph.
  • Support our ability to continue running a donation-based “Flourish & Grow” summer program at Temple Hall Farm, as well as our Spring & Fall programs.
  • “Flourish & Grow” offers 30 participants with Autism and related challenges eight weeks of direct, personalized instruction in gardening, community interaction, and social skills development.

How will your donation support us?

  • $2,000 supports purchase of a new greenhouse OR a set of cold frames to extend program instruction for our participants.
  • $1,000 pays for a set of four 2x8’ cedar cold frames set in the garden to extend our growing season in Spring and Fall.
  • $500 covers a full set of attractive packaging materials with Legacy Farms recipe cards for our participants to use as they develop professional skills delivering produce to community partners for eight weeks. (Lightfoot Restaurant, Lansdowne Resort, Loudoun Hunger Relief, Blossom & Bloom, The Paxton Campus)
  • $500 pays for a full set of print marketing materials to be used at local events, letting our community know about program and volunteer opportunities
  • $250 pays for a set of vegetable, herb, and flower seeds for an initial Spring planting of our garden at Temple Hall Farm.
  • $250 pays for a second set of vegetable, herb and flower seeds for subsequent plantings and a second production garden.
  • $100 pays for one set of attractive packaging materials and Legacy Farms recipes cards for our participants to use in delivering our vegetables, herbs, and flowers to one of our community partners for eight weeks (Lightfoot Restaurant, Lansdowne Resort, Loudoun Hunger Relief, Blossom & Bloom, The Paxton Campus).
  • $50 buys 10 packets of seeds.

Mission

Legacy Farms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to providing employment support services and agrarian-based vocational training for participants with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as other developmental and social challenges.

Profile

Legacy Farms is committed to helping individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities explore opportunities that advance their employment, education, life skills, health, and well-being. Our programs provide experience with a wide array of agrarian-based job skills, all designed to give our farmers "hands-on" learning opportunities while contributing to their community.

We offer three seasonal programs in Spring, Summer, and Fall for those who are interested in gardening, acquiring skills through an apprenticeship-style model, and eventually gaining meaningful employment with assistance through our job placement services. Our programming is donation-based and our staff is largely volunteer. An essential part of our participants' learning process and our organization's success is our partnership with community businesses and organizations as well as local donors who support our efforts through programs such as GiveChoose!

Our main production garden is based at Temple Hall Regional Farm in Leesburg. We have installed gardens for others at The Paxton Campus, and also an initial kitchen herb garden at Lansdowne Resort, which is now being expanded as a source of local produce for their new restaurant. Lansdowne, in turn, supports our organization's growth through on-going collaboration for fundraising and new program ideation. Other local partners such as Lightfoot Restaurant and Blossom & Bloom, receive deliveries in the summer from our farm. And A Farm Less Ordinary, Tarara Winery, and Walsh Family Wine coordinate with us to hire participants who are ready to enter the workforce.

We are proud to be deeply engaged with the local Loudoun community, and to work collectively in supporting our participants in gaining the skills needed for successful transition into the workforce!
