Loudoun Free Clinic

Goal: $6,000.00

Specific Need

Your loving gift...gives the gift of life! Loudoun Free Clinic is proud to celebrate over 20 years of providing quality, free healthcare to uninsured residents of Loudoun County. We have recently expanded our eligibility criteria to serve residents 300% below the FPL. In 2019 we served 826 patients in over 5,000 visits. Our Give Choose campaign is two-fold:  to address the long-term impact of COVID-19 and to improve care to our WONDERWOMEN female patient population!

FACTS ABOUT OUR PATIENTS:

FACT # 1 - Did you know that over 90% of our patients are employed, without medical insurance? In fact, most work two jobs or more in order to support their families. Many are service industry workers - they cook your food in restaurants, clean your homes, landscape your yard, ring up your groceries, build your homes, and care for your children in daycares.

FACT # 2 - Most of our patients have several chronic diseases – diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, asthma, depression – and are seen on average 7 times per year. We provide them general medicine, women's health, medication, imaging services, laboratory testing, and specialty care:  Acupuncture, Chiropractic Care, Dermatology, Endocrinology, ENT, Gastroenterology, Gynecology, Internal Medicine, Nephrology, Neurology, Oncology/Hematology, Opthalmology/Optometry, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Psychiatry, Rheumatology. These services are leveraged through our volunteer base of over 60 providers, interpreters and administrative support staff.

FACT # 3 - Did you know that 68% of our patients are women? These hard-working women face many challenges working while raising families in dire circumstances to meet the needs of their families.  As a result, they often overlook their own extraordinary health problems.

COVID-19 CAMPAIGN:

Loudoun Free Clinic continues to care for patients during the COVID-19 pandemic. We are not accepting walk-in patients at this time. We have transitioned to telephonic and telemedicine visits for most of our patients to reduce their risk of exposure by keeping them in their homes. Patients with urgent issues such as infections are still being seen in the Clinic, with screening and masking protocols.  Renewals are being extended, and we continue to accept new patients.

Due to the economic effects of COVID-19, we anticipate 150 or more new patients seeking our services through the end of 2020.  Funding from Give Choose will be allocated to extra provider hours needed to support this influx of new patients, and to support a new telemedicine platform to expand capacity, as COVID-19 is expected to linger throughout 2020 and beyond.

WONDERWOMEN CAMPAIGN: Our Super Women Warriors!

We are also shining the focus on our own Wonderwomen patients - all 562 of them!  Each of them works hard to meet the growing demands of their families as they battle their own health issues. Many of them work one or more jobs, raise their children, and face incredible barriers in their lives.  Each of them has a story - many have had to deal with trauma, domestic violence, immigration issues... and the list goes on. We have recently had several patients who are facing dire cancer diagnoses during the COVID-19 crisis, and we've had to rally to find them appropriate care during a time when many specialty providers are refusing referrals.

We also care for our Wonderwomen patients by providing Women's Healthcare Services. Our Superwoman Volunteer Dr. Jennifer Hickman works with us weekly to provide Pap Smears, and performs minor procedures in the clinic such as biopsy and colposcopy. But what we can provide in-house is limited, and often our patients need gynecological surgeries and cancer treatment from outside specialty providers.  Sometimes these providers require a nominal fee, but often our patients cannot even afford these fees. We also have limited medical equipment and supplies for gynecologic care.  We need lighted speculums, exam lights, and medical supplies to continue to provide quality gynecologic treatment to our growing female patient base.

Your generous Give Choose donation will support Loudoun Free Clinic for COVID-19 needs and to help care for our female patients.
We are grateful for your partnership.  Thank you for your support and generosity!

Mission

Loudoun Free Clinic provides high-quality medical care to low-income, uninsured adults in Loudoun County, who as a result of economic or other barriers, would otherwise do without. For every $1 donated, $11 worth of medical care is given. Your support saves lives!

Our History

1999 - The Loudoun Free Clinic (LFC) was founded to provide free medical care to low-income, uninsured adults in the County.  Loudoun County Health Department initially provided us with space to hold a general medical clinic one night a week.

2002 - We opened the doors of our new home:  2,800 square feet of space donated by Inova Loudoun Hospital.  We had just one paid staff member and a committed group of volunteers.  This small, dedicated group provided health care services to an average of 21 patients per week on a first-come, first-served basis.

TODAY - LFC is an established and respected partner in the community as a safety net provider.  We have an outstanding staff of 15 employees and a dedicated group of over 60 volunteers who provide care to more than 800 patients.  In 2019, our volunteers dedicated 7,200 hours valued at $293,000.

We have improved the health and lives of thousands of people since 1999 by providing top quality, compassionate medical care.  In order to qualify, a patient must be uninsured, have a household income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level and be a resident of Loudoun County.

Profile

Our Work

We are in our 21st year of caring for the uninsured of Loudoun County! Since 1999, the Loudoun Free Clinic has cared for thousands of people struggling with emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions. We ensure all treatments, including medication, are provided at no cost to our patients.

We are funded entirely by grants and donations and supported by a network of community organizations as well as a loving and dedicated group of volunteers who staff our daytime and evening clinics to meet this critical need in our community.

Our Commitment

We are committed to making sure that no one in our community goes without medical care, and we have been opening our doors to more people than ever before.  In 2019, we provided care to 826 patients in over 5,000 medical visits and we provided 10,710 prescriptions valued at over $2.8 million. Through the tremendous support of our community, we are able to leverage $11 worth of medical services for every $1 donated.  But what we offer goes beyond medical care.

Many of our patients come to us under the most difficult of circumstances, when they are sick and struggling, and when they have lost their ability to provide for their families, let alone their most basic health care needs.  LFC offers expert medical care and something that cannot be measured - caring support, and a community to which they can turn.  We also offer hope for their future!
