The mission of Mothers Against Drunk Driving is to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes and prevent underage drinking.

We are Mothers Against Drunk Driving of Loudoun County (MADD Loudoun). We are a local chapter of the national organization founded in 1980, staffed solely by volunteers. Our mission is to stop drunk and drugged driving, advocate for the victims of these crimes and prevent underage drinking. We carry out our mission through supporting programs such as:

VICTIM ADVOCACY: Victim Services are provided at no charge. MADD Loudoun strives to provide as many services as possible to victims of drugged and drunk driving crashes, dependent on availability. An example of the services we provide include:

  • Emotional support to those impacted.
  • Free literature (available in both English and Spanish) related to the aftermath of a crash.
  • Education and assistance in understanding drunk and drugged driving laws.
  • Education on the criminal justice process and court proceedings.
  • Assistance with preparation of a Victim Impact Statement.
  • Court accompaniment or if you are unable to attend, keep you informed of legal proceedings.
  • Assist victims in understanding their rights and completing applications for Crime Victim Compensation.
  • Assist in preparing statements for parole hearings or probation hearings.
  • Referrals to local community resources (i.e. support groups, crisis professional counselors and civil attorneys).

COURT MONITORING: This program operates as a credibility check on the criminal justice system. MADD Loudoun Volunteers attend local court proceedings involving drunk driving cases weekly to observe and record drunk-driving stats and then enter the trial results into the MADD nationwide court monitoring database. MADD compiles these results into relevant reports and publicizes them. Court monitoring promotes public interest and awareness and helps ensure that laws are being enforced and prosecuted fully.

  • POWER OF PARENTS: Parents are the first line of defense in the prevention of underaged drinking, which is why MADD Loudoun offers free 15 or 25-minute workshops to parents and caregivers of middle and high schoolers providing educational material, tips and resources on how to effectively discuss the dangers and consequences of underage drinking with teens.
  • POWER OF YOU(TH): is a 45-minute presentation utilizing multimedia and a game format that targets both middle and high school aged teens. This presentation is designed for an auditorium or classroom setting and can be brought to your school, church, or organization.

TIE ONE ON FOR SAFETY (Red Ribbon Campaign): This annual campaign serves as a reminder to take a stance against drinking and driving. MADD Loudoun is responsible for the distribution of 90,000 Ribbons and informational flyers to all LCPS students and staff. We provide student volunteers the opportunity to earn community service hours through assembling Ribbons.

SOBRIETY CHECKPOINTS: Sobriety checkpoints are a law enforcement technique to evaluate drivers for signs of alcohol or drug impairment. These checkpoints serve as a reminder to motorists not to drink and drive. MADD Loudoun volunteers support our local law enforcement at sobriety checkpoints by providing refreshments for the officers and distributing educational materials to drivers.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS: MADD Loudoun's efforts potentially impact the entire county, as well as neighboring jurisdictions, in protecting ALL residents of ALL ages from the adverse effects of drunk driving by keeping impaired drivers off our roads. Our non-profit 501(c)3 organization's funding relies on our annual fundraiser and donations by the community. Without your support we cannot continue to fund our programs. Please consider making an online donation to MADD Loudoun or participate in our fundraisers.

  • MADD LOUDOUN WALK LIKE MADD 5K & SILENT AUCTION EVENT:  Join us on May 19, 2018 at Park View High School in Sterling for our primary fundraiser of the year. Come Walk Like MADD honoring the victims of drunk driving. The Walk is open to ALL ages and ALL levels of fitness. Teens can earn volunteer hours. You can walk with us in person or be a virtual walker and support us in spirit. Participate individually or register a team. Business sponsorship or in-kind donations to our silent auction are also very much appreciated. For information or to register go to www.walklikemadd.org/sterling
  • GOTSNEAKERS: MADD Loudoun is proud to present our second  annual sneaker drive fundraiser. In the spirit of environmental and economic sustainability, we have partnered with GotSneakers, a sneaker recycling organization and social fundraising platform, which will compensate MADD Loudoun for every pair of useable sneakers that we collect. There is no limit to the amount of money we can raise. The more we collect the more we earn. The request is simple: Clean out your closets of all unwanted men's, women's & children's paired sneakers and athletic cleats and bring them TIED TOGETHER in garbage bags to a MADD Loudoun GotSneakers collection box. There are donation locations all over the county!  To find a collection location near you go to www.walklikemadd.org/sterling and click on "GotSneakers?" For questions or to become a GotSneakers donation location please email us maddloudoun@aol.com.
