Potomac Conservancy Inc

Potomac Conservancy protects and restores the Potomac River and its tributaries, and connects people to this national treasure.

We are the region's leading clean water advocate and we believe the foundation of healthy, sustainable, and vibrant communities starts with clean water.

Founded in 1993 by a group of local recreationalists concerned about the deteriorating quality of the Potomac Gorge, today we work throughout the 15,000 square mile watershed conserving land, advocating for river-friendly policies, and engaging citizens in volunteer stewardship of the river and its surrounding lands.

We combine the grassroots power of over 24,000 members and online activists with land conservation and policy initiatives to restore the Potomac River to full health.

Since our founding, we have permanently protected 15,000 acres, mobilized 44,000 volunteers who have removed 273,000 pounds of trash from the shores of the Potomac, planted 7,000 trees along degraded stream banks, and collected 165,500 pounds of native tree seeds for restoration projects. We are working with around 1,000 volunteers and paddle program participants a year, programs designed to engage our community and grow a citizen movement for clean water. Activating that movement, we have engaged 8,400 advocates for policy change to protect our waterways.
