Mobile Hope

Goal: $20,000.00

Specific Need

Mobile Hope is excited to announce that we have received a matching gift up to $16,000, making your gift even more powerful to our neighbors in need.

Mobile Hope would like to use this powerful day of giving to ask for your support of our Covid-19 response efforts. 15,929 Loudoun County Public School (LCPS) students rely on free and reduced lunch programs during the school year. That’s 18.7% of LCPS students, almost 1 in 5. In addition to the social isolation that comes from being away from teachers, friends, counselors and mentors, and the sense of fear from uncertain times, many parents are unable to put food on the table. Meals are simply not a given. Low-income families are among the hardest hit by the economic crisis caused by Covid-19.

To meet the growing need, Mobile Hope has expanded our bus outreach services from 8 stops to 80 stops per month, delivering non-perishable food and other essential supplies such as diapers, wipes, shampoo and feminine hygiene items through our bus outreach program, "Listen for the Honk" or “Escucha La Bocina del Bus". We have served 28,673 family members with more than 8,068 bags of food, and we will continue to provide heightened services. We have waived eligibility criteria during this emergency and are honored to serve anyone in need through our bus outreach.

We continue to serve homeless and at-risk youth (ages 18-24) in our community through our crisis-care program. Homeless youth are provided with emergency shelter, typically in the form of hotel stays. Our staff and mentors work with these youth to secure stable housing, a job, reliable transportation, and ultimately self-sufficiency.

Because of your giftparents’ will shed tears of relief, and children will understand that even in uncertain times, they live in a community that cares and believes they are worthy.

Mission

Mobile Hope is driven by the reality that every young person deserves a safe place to sleep and hope for a brighter future.

Mobile Hope’s mission is to improve the lives of young people, 24 years of age or younger, who are disadvantaged, precariously housed, or homeless in Loudoun County. We believe all children should grow up in a safe environment with the tools they need to become successful.

Profile

Homelessness is seen on the face of a young person, with a heartbreaking story – a teenage boy abused by an alcoholic parent, a pregnant girl rejected by her guardian or a teenager trying to escape gang membership or a life of forced prostitution. Youth homelessness often results from physical, sexual or emotional abuse, frequently from parents or guardians.

According to a 2017 study conducted by Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago entitled, “Voices of Youth Count”, “adolescents and young adults represent a key developmental window. Every day of housing instability represents missed opportunities to support healthy development and transitions to productive adulthood.” Loudoun County’s recent Needs Assessment reports that Mobile Hope is the only organization that supports homeless youth.

Mobile Hope is an innovative organization that is committed to standing up for these young people and employing evidence-based solutions to improve the lives of homeless youth. Our supporters have remarkable opportunity to join us in addressing, and ultimately to end youth homelessness in Loudoun County.
