Your gifts will help us pay for the following:

$40-   Vaccinate an animal for Rabies or Distemper

$55-   Neuter 1 male cat

$100- Spay, vaccinate, microchip 1 Community (feral) cat

Mission

A Foster-based volunteer organization that partners with the community to save more animals and achieve a No-Kill Community.

Profile

HSLC has been helping animals for over 50 years, since our founding in 1966.  HSLC does not have a physical facility or shelter; all our animals are in Foster homes, display cages at the Petvalu's in Ashburn or South Riding, or in temporary boarding until they are adopted into their furever homes.

We pay for all medical expenses for our Foster animals. We make sure all our Foster animals are tested for Heartworm/Lyme (dogs) and FIV/FeLV (cats and kittens). We treat them for fleas and worms and any injuries or illnesses they have upon Intake, or while they are in Foster Care. We have had animals treated for pnuemonia, panleukopenia, ringworm, coccidia, and other illnesses over the past year. We have also had several cats that needed extensive dental surgery recently.

All our Foster animals are vaccinated, spayed and neutered, and microchipped before adoption. The exception is for kittens and puppies. We vaccinate and alter them at the appropriate age, even if they are already adopted.

Our TNR/ Community Cats program will humanely trap communty (feral) cats and transport them to our vet partners.  The cats will be vaccinated for Rabies and FRCPV (Distemper/Calici/Panleuk), spayed and neutered, microchipped, and treated for fleas and worms. They will also be eartipped, the universal symbol to show that a Community Cat has been neutered and vaccinated. Then they are returned to their colony or home.  We provide this program free of charge because we don't want anyone to be afraid to ask for help due to concerns about the financial burdens of caring for Community Cats.

Last year we rescued a record number of dogs and cats (258) and had 184 adopted into their "furever" homes. We helped over 100 Community cats and helped deliver over 14,000 lbs of donated pet food to the Pet Pantry at Loudoun Hunger Relief. We provided $15,000 in financial assistance to families needing help with their vet bills, relocated over 20 community cats that were in danger, and helped over 1000 pet owners save money for spaying and neutering their pets.
