This Is My Brave

Goal: $5,000.00

Specific Need

We believe in the power of storytelling to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness.  This Is My Brave – The Show is a live presentation of touching essays, original music, poetry and comedy performed by a dozen individuals living with or loving someone with a mental illness.

Your donation will help to further expand our programs.  Our board has committed to match donations up to $2,000 towards our $5,000 goal.

In 2019, This Is My Brave launched a college pilot program: This is My Brave “College Edition”.

In the Fall of 2020 we are proud to partner with Josh Anderson Foundation to bring This Is My Brave High School Edition to Fairfax County VA.

In the spring of 2020, This Is My Brave is seeking teens to partner with us and Josh Anderson Foundation as Brave Ambassadors for the 2020-2021 school year to change their school’s culture around mental health. Some Brave Ambassadors will be selected to travel to the Washington DC area in the spring of 2021 to share their own personal stories in a live performance on our stage. Brave Ambassadors may also be featured in our documentary, Brave High, now in production.

This Is My Brave created its Speakers Bureau in 2017 to bring the power of storytelling to new venues and listeners such as conferences and staff trainings. They will share their journey in an engaging performance while simultaneously generating a greater understanding of mental health issues.

Mission

The mission of This Is My Brave is to bring stories of mental illness and addiction out of the shadows and into the spotlight.

By sharing personal stories of individuals living successful, full lives despite mental illness through poetry, essay and original music, on stage in front of a live audience, and through stories submitted and published to our blog, and via our YouTube channel, we can help to reduce stigma.
