Loudoun Cares

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

Matching Fund $4,875-your donation can be doubled!

Funds raised during Give Choose will be used to man our Helpline including the newly created COVID19 Emergency Fund and Helpline, as well as, helping to support our Volunteer Center Program. Through the Helpline residents adversely affected by the COVID19 crisis can find financial assistance with rent. Program funds are needed to support our Resource Specialist as she helps our most vulnerable residents navigate the resources here in Loudoun County.

Loudoun Cares connects those who serve with those in need to build a stronger community. We support over 200 nonprofits find the volunteers they need and connect with those that need them.

1.    Keeping people most impacted by our current health crisis in their homes. COVID-19 has caused the most pain for those least able to afford it. Hundreds of workers already on the edge financially have lost service jobs. Always struggling, their need for help to pay rent and utility bills and to feed their families is now dire. To meet this urgent need, Loudoun Cares has teamed with Catholic Charities to man the COVID19 Emergency Fund and Helpline to hear, verify and help meet needs of deserving neighbors struggling to get by. This is in addition to our already established program that connects those in need of health and human services with the nonprofits and agencies best equipped to help them

2.    Matching PEOPLE who want to help with those that NEED their help. Year-round, and for the past 6 years, our organization also puts needed volunteers into the ranks of more than 200 local charities through our Volunteer Center (http://volunteer.loudouncares.org). By matching our county’s volunteer spirit and in-demand skillsets with non-profit partners who could use a hand (that can fold, type, deliver, balance their books, code, teach or otherwise show up), Loudoun Cares annually unleashes a tidal wave of engagement! People GIVE when they SEE the NEED, and the Volunteer Center helps identify those needs so people can respond. Loudoun Cares’ Volunteer Center is the ONLY online matching service exclusive to Loudoun County to turn the inclination to get involved in committed, lifelong service.

The volunteer spirit Loudoun Cares channeled last year resulted in nearly $1 million in goods and services supporting local non-profits. We literally match those in need with those blessed enough to be able to provide those needs, whether in goods or services. We do this through our:

Volunteer Center: In 2019, we matched 1,000 volunteers with a combination of 217 local nonprofits. We trained 41 managers through our Volunteer Management Training Series and honored 85 Outstanding Volunteers in 14 categories of service at our annual awards ceremony. We also partnered with Loudoun County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to coordinate volunteers in case of a disaster. During the COVID19 crisis we have created a "Help COVID19 Nonprofit Needs" Initiative where our local nonprofits can post their needs for supplies, support, and safe ways for people to volunteer.

Emergency Assistance Network: Dialing 703-669-INFO (4636) connects residents in crisis with local resources. Callers are directed to providers that can assist with basic needs (financial, food, clothing, medical, etc.) Thus, callers avoid or reduce the need for seeking more costly and restrictive higher-level services. Over the past two years, Loudoun Cares has secured $90,000 for 301 households through our Faith Network. These are households that cannot be helped through Community Services and other agencies or nonprofits, have exhausted those resources, or are being helped partially.

Loudoun Cares programs have positively impacted the health, welfare and social engagement of Loudoun County for the past 16 years: Thousands are receiving vital services; hundreds of volunteers provide "feet on the street" every day; youth are inspired to serve their community, and nonprofits are working TOGETHER to make a difference.
