Loudoun Cares

Goal: $5,178.00

Specific Need

Our mission is to build a strong Loudoun County by providing life-sustaining and life-enhancing resources to all residents. Gifts made to Loudoun Cares will help support programs that connect residents and nonprofits with the resources they need. Residents in crisis find assistance through our Information & Referral Helpline while those residents wanting to give back to their community can find a place to service through our online Volunteer Center. As a local county supportive organization, your contributions impact not only Loudoun Cares and our mission but support hundreds of nonprofits that we support.

Loudoun Cares was established in 2003 as a central point for nonprofits and residents alike. Today, Loudoun Cares supports both the residents and the nonprofits here in Loudoun County through our programs:

Information & Referral (I&R) Helpline: Connects residents in crisis with local resources. Callers are directed to providers that can assist with basic needs (financial, food, clothing, medical, etc.) Thus, callers avoid or reduce the need of seeking more costly and restrictive higher level services. In 2017 I&R provided some 5,600 residents (46% children) with referrals and secured $22,000 in emergency funds from our faith-based partners in cases where other agencies could not help or could only help partically.

Volunteer Center: In 2017 we matched 171 agencies with thousands of residents online who were seeking volunteer opportunities. We trained 44 managers through our Volunteer Management Training Series and honored 15 Outstanding Volunteers at our awards ceremony. We also partnered with Loudoun County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to coordinate volunteers in case of a disaster.

Claude Moore Community Builders (CMCB): Our youth inititative in partnership with Loudoun Youth, Inc., was formed in 2007 to provide high school students with leadership training and community service opportunties. These high school students commit to a ten-month program featuring 100 volunteer hours and professional development training. Students have volunteered over 31,000 hours serving hundreds of nonprofits since the pogram began.

Nonprofit Center: Currently provides stable and affordable office space for six area nonprofits to include supportive services and low overhead. This center allows nonoprofits to reduce overhead increasing their ability to provide direct services to the residents.

Loudoun Cares programs have positively impacted the health of Loudoun County over the past 15 years: Thousands receiving vital services; hundreds of volunteers working every day; youth elevated to serve their community; nonprofits working together under one roof.
