Loudoun Cares

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

Matching Fund $2,000-your donation can be doubled!

Loudoun County residents collectively represent a wealth of resources and skills that could be shared productively with those in need, raising the quality of life for our community as a whole. IF ONLY those with volunteer spirit and much-needed skillsets could be matched with our non-profit partners who desperately need help, Loudoun Cares believes it could unleash a tidal wave of engagement!

People don’t GIVE when they don’t SEE the NEED. Loudoun Cares’ Volunteer Center (http://volunteer.loudouncares.org) is the ONLY online matching service exclusive to Loudoun County to turn the inclination to get involved into committed, lifelong service.

Our request to operate and upgrade this much-needed matching service to include the ability for professional service people to donate a few hours of their time to charities in need was narrowly denied in the county’s grant process. We need YOUR help to put all Loudoun service organizations on a “sound footing” by putting “feet on the street” who can help them meet the needs of everyone in Loudoun!

Loudoun Cares connects those in need with those who serve in Loudoun County.

* Get Help Infoline: Through our Get Help Infoline we connect those in need of health and human services with local agencies and nonprofits. We provide emergency financial assistance through our Faith Network helping residents that cannot be helped through human services or helped partialy to avoid utilities disconection, eviction, and more.

* Volunteer Center: Loudoun Cares connects volunteers with local nonprofits in need. Your contributions impact not only Loudoun Cares and our mission to engage our community in giving back, but they support hundreds of nonprofits, helping them increase awareness of how everyone can help their neighbors in need.

The volunteer spirit Loudoun Cares channeled last year resulted in nearly $1 million in goods and services supporting local non-profits. We literally match those in need with those blessed enough to be able to provide those needs, whether in goods or services. We do this through our:

Information & Referral (I&R) Helpline: Dialing 703-669-INFO (4636) connects residents in crisis with local resources. Callers are directed to providers that can assist with basic needs (financial, food, clothing, medical, etc.) Thus, callers avoid or reduce the need of seeking more costly and restrictive higher level services. In 2018, I&R provided some 1,100 households and secured $55,000 for 174 families from our faith-based partners.

Volunteer Center: In 2018, we matched 1,700 volunteers with a combination of 193 agencies. We trained 40 managers through our Volunteer Management Training Series and honored 80 Outstanding Volunteers in 13 categories of service at our annual awards ceremony. We also partnered with Loudoun County’s Office of Emergency Management (OEM) to coordinate volunteers in case of a disaster.

Loudoun Cares programs have positively impacted the health, welfare and social engagement of Loudoun County over the past 15 years: Thousands are receiving vital services; hundreds of volunteers provide "feet on the street" every day; youth are inspired to serve their community; nonprofits are working together to make a difference.
