FAQ's for Donors

Is there a minimum gift?

Yes, $10 is the smallest gift our site can accept per charity.  You may make multiple $10 gifts (or more) to multiple charities, though! 

I see some charities have "challenge gifts." What does that mean?

Many Give Choose charities plan ahead for this event, and ask one or more donors to match a gift, dollar for dollar, raised during Give Choose.  That means your gift is leveraged in the best of ways.

I see there are prizes. What does that mean?

Generous sponsors have contributed to a prize pool to make additional gifts to participating nonprofits throughout the day during Give Choose.  Some nonprofits will try to win a prize for "Most Dollars Raised" or "Most Donors" during a specific time period throughout the day. 

Will I receive a thank you for my donation?

Yes, our site will generate a thank-you for tax purposes that will be emailed to you immediately. Each gift you make is fully tax-deductible.

How much of my donation will go to my chosen nonprofit(s)?

Two fully tax-deductible fees are attached to each gift:  credit-card processing fees (approximately 2.99%) and a small fee to the Community Foundation (we use this additional 2% for, social media outreach, advertising, and more to support our local nonprofits) for a total cost of 4.99%.  You can opt to cover all fees for your selected nonprofits at checkout!

May I make a gift that I have pledged to a charity?

Give Choose gifts are intended to benefit a charity with new, unpledged gifts.

How are the participating nonprofits selected?

Any 501(c)3 nonprofit public charity directly serving and located in Loudoun and/or Northern Fauquier Counties is eligible to participate. Nonprofits are required to register their participation each year.  The 2024 event is now closed for the year, and we will open the registration period in December 2024 for nonprofits to register for Give Choose 2025.  Nonprofits with questions regarding participating in Give Choose should email Joanne Trimmer at joanne@communityfoundationlf.org.

May I restrict how a gift is used?

No, Give Choose gifts are designed to provide general support to our participating charities—the hardest type of funds for nonprofits to raise.

Can we use donations for memberships, event tickets or "gift" premiums?

Donations may not be used to receive any material benefit to you, such as membership fees, event tickets, golf fees, admission tickets, T- shirts, or other gifts.

My employer will match my charitable gifts; will you process requests for employer matching programs?

No, the Community Foundation is not able to process requests for employer matching contributions for Give Choose or distribute empoyer matching contributions to designated nonprofits after the Give Choose event.  Any employer matching contributions provided to the Community Foundation will be absorbed by the Community Foundation to support our operations.

FAQ's for Participating Nonprofits

How do I register or renew my nonprofit's participation in 2024?

  • Returning Nonprofits: To renew your organization's participation, click "Login" in the menu above to access your account. Once logged in, you'll download, sign, and upload a 2024 Give Choose Agreement. Once approved by the Community Foundation, your profile will be activated.
  • New Nonprofits: If your organization is participating in Give Choose for the very first time, click "Registration" in the menu above and complete the online registration form. What are the eligibility requirements for nonprofits to participate in Give Choose?

When is this year's Give Choose training for nonprofits?

An optional (and encouraged) online training session for nonprofits participating in Give Choose is scheduled for January 30, 2024. Nonprofits registering for Give Choose will be provided information on how to register for the training or access a recording of the training after their registration or renewal is approved.

Does registering my nonprofit to participate in Give Choose cost anything?

No, there is no fee or cost to register your nonprofit for Give Choose.

The Community Foundation assesses a 4.99% fee on each gift made during Give Choose: approximately 2.99% in credit card processing fees and approximately 2% fee to the Community Foundation to offest our expenses in hosting the Give Choose platform, social media outreach, print advertising, and more. Your donors may opt to donate a little extra to cover your processessing fees at checkout!

Does the Community Foundation send a gift reciept to donors?

Yes, all donors will receive a gift receipt from the Community Foudnation.

Are Give Choose gifts restricted for a program or project?

Give Choose gifts must be used for your programs and services benefitting Loudoun and/or Northern Fauquier Counties but are otherwise for general support.
