Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

Celebrating 29 years of neighbors helping neighbors in Loudoun County!

Now, more than ever, the elderly and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses in our community need the support that LVC's volunteers provide. Our volunteers help with medical transportation, including dialysis, cancer treatments, and urgent care, as well as regular doctor visits, prescription pickup and drop off, money management, home food delivery, chore corps requests, and friendly calls on a regular basis. We also help with direct financial support requests through our Care Receiver Fund.

With our seniors and neighbors with disabilities, needing to remain connected to the community in this time of COVID isolation, we have added reassurance and check in calls. In 2022, we made almost 3,000 calls that really helped reduce isolation and ensuing depression. We also increased our home deliveries of supplemental food from area food pantries to those in our community who are in need of groceries but, because of health and wellness concerns, can't go out to get the food themselves.

In late 2023, we finally launched our Wheelchair-Assisted Transportation program, providing assisted medical transportation to both wheelchair users and mobile seniors and adults with disabilities. The van is out and about 2 days each week, and we hope to be able to add a third day of WAT Van transportation this year. To do so, we need to hire a second part-time driver, a part-time Outreach Coordinator, and a part-time Van Assistant. These new staff will increase our capacity to help more individuals, but will add to our expenses. So, our goal for GiveChoose 2024 is to raise $10,000 to help offset these costs. Every donation helps so much - thank you!

- Won't you help?

Mission

Loudoun Volunteer Caregivers is a corps of volunteers who strive to help frail elderly and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses to maintain independent living, with dignity and with quality of life.

Profile

Helping frail elderly and adults with disabilities and chronic illnesses to maintain independent living, with dignity and with quality of life.

All services are provided for free, regardless of the care receivers' income.

Assisted Transportation provides transportation to non-emergency medical appointments, dental appointments, physical therapy, dialysis treatments, cancer treatments, and other non-critical medical/dental appointments as well as non-medical errands and appointments. LVC is now able to offer assisted medical transportation to wheelchair users as well as mobile individuals through our Wheelchair Assisted Transportation (WAT) program.

Supportive Services provide grocery shopping, food bank pick-up/delivery, prescription pick up/delivery, banking. Clients either accompany volunteers or volunteers provide the service on behalf of homebound clients. Friendly visits or phone calls; respite care.

Our Chore Corps (collaborating with the Area Agency on Aging) provides free minor home repairs, maintenance, and light housekeeping.

Personal Money Management provides bill paying assistance and representative payees for those incapable of managing their own SSI or SSDI.  100% of our clients who are matched with representative payee volunteers are clients of Loudoun County's Dept of Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Substance Abuse or the Community Service Board.

Our goals are to help more elderly and adults with disabilities to remain living independently, with the assistance they need that will enable them to do so.
