Dulles South Food Pantry, Inc.

Goal: $2,000.00

Specific Need

Help us meet our matching challenge donation! Two donors have pledged to match donations to Dulles South Food Pantry up to $500 each!  Your contribution can help us raise an additional $1,000 to decrease food insecurity in our community!

During the COVID-19 situation, we are continuing to provide weekly food distribution, by appointment, to our current guests as well as adding new guests daily. In addition, we are providing Bonus Bags, with breakfasts and lunches for 2 weeks, to families with children who qualify for Free and Reduced Meals through Loudoun County Public Schools. We are operating on a "staff only" basis and using a curbside food distribution model in order to keep our guests, volunteers and staff safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We have seen an increase of 20% in guest counts. For the week of April 13, we served 104 households / 419 individuals. In addition, we provided 55 Bonus Bags of 1,940 meals. In total, we distributed 8,342 pounds of food.  We expect our numbers to continue to rise - for the week of April 20, we have 135 families scheduled to receive food.

Mission

The Dulles South Food Pantry is a multi-faith food pantry. We provide nutritious food, personal supplies and other services to those in need in Dulles South and the surrounding area regardless of income, faith or other criteria and strive to promote self-sufficiency.

Profile

As the Dulles South community keeps growing, the number of families needing assistance is also growing. The Pantry is open by appointment every Wednesday and assists 70-90 families a week.  Our slogan, "Neighbors Feeding Neighbors," truly describes our organization which is supported by the generous donations of time, money, and food by the residents and businesses of Dulles South and the surrounding community. Those who live in South Riding, Aldie, and Brambleton may visit the pantry up to twice a month. (The Pantry's regular service area matches the school boundaries of Freedom, John Champe, Independence, Rock Ridge, Briar Woods, and future Lightridge high schools).

During 2019, the Pantry was visited by families 3,746 times and distributed more than 284,000 pounds of food. Our special Thanksgiving food distribution provided 180 families with a turkey and trimmings. Our Backpack Buddies Program is providing weekend bags for 210 food-insecure students at 18 local schools.

We are part of the network of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and Feeding America and we are grateful to their Partner Pick-Up Program where we are partnered with Walmart at Dulles Landing and Wegman's in Chantilly. We also participate in food rescue programs with several local schools.

Last year, 781 volunteers donated more than 9,066 hours of their time to operate the Pantry.

Please help us help the hungry in our community.
