Specific Need

In 2022, Insight opened a 5,000 square feet early-stage focused center in Sterling. This space expands our Reconnections early-stage memory care program for those with mild cognitive impairment and early dementia. This location also offers care partner education and support programs, as we aim to serve the entire family through their journey.

Reconnections: An early-stage brain health program that meets 4 days a week. This early-stage, social model day program offers small group, engaging activities for those living with MCI or an early dementia diagnosis, surrounded by peers and in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental setting.

Classes for Caregivers: Education programs for care partners, family, and friends.

Memory Café: For families to come together for activities and fun!

The Alzheimer's Association (2025) estimates that nationally, more than 1 in 9 people over the age of 65 have Alzheimer's disease. Over 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease, and this number is projected to grow to almost 14 million by the year 2050. In Virginia there are 164,000 people living with Alzheimer's, and in Loudoun County alone, there are 7,407 people living with Alzheimer's disease or another form of dementia.

In addition to understanding the growing need for care, it is important to discuss the resources that a family needs to access private duty memory care or caregiver respite support. In-home services and institutional care can be out of reach for most to access because of their high cost. This segment of our population is especially vulnerable to caregiver burnout and social isolation.

Insight is committed to making its programs and services available to as many people as possible, offering several programs free of charge, and providing opportunities for financial assistance for all our fee-based programs.

Profile

Insight Memory Care Center is a nonprofit adult day health and resource center providing specialized care, support, and education for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairments, their families, caregivers, and the community. Serving Northern Virginia since 1984, Insight offers a spectrum of holistic care, with a vision of a community where those affected by memory impairments can achieve the highest quality of life.

Insight’s adult day health center provides a safe, engaging, and therapeutic environment for individuals with mid to later stage memory impairment. It is the only dementia-specific day center in the DC metro area and still the only adult day health center in Northern Virginia with programs for people in the later stages of dementia. For those in the early stages, Insight offers social engagement programs to maximize capabilities, and provide support for loved ones to adjust to changing family dynamics. Additionally, our innovative education and support programs provide caregiver classes, community trainings, professional seminars, support groups, and individual consultations. These programs help family members remain confident and effective in their caregiving roles and increase awareness and understanding of the disease in the community.
