VEHICLES EMPOWERING HOPE - PROGRAM

Young adults who've been in foster care often face many hurdles on their way to independence. Without a solid foundation, the road to adulthood can get pretty twisty and full of unexpected bumps. Our new initiative, the 'Vehicles Empowering Hope' program, aims to make a meaningful and practical impact on the lives of former foster youth by addressing one of the crucial challenges they often face - transportation. Essential to fulfilling work duties and daily needs, transportation is an important component on the road to independence.

We are raising $3,000 for Give Choose Day to support Phase 1 of our new Vehicles Empowering Hope program.

Through Phase 1***  we aim to provide former foster youth in need with:

  • Towing services to alleviate the financial burden of getting a vehicle to a service facility

  • Assistance with repairs and maintenance of their vehicle

  • Collaborating with Driving School to assist young adults with driving lessons, to secure a driver's license

  • Gift cards for gas to alleviate the financial strain associated with transportation

  • Gift cards specifically for oil changes and other routine maintenance to keep their cars in optimal condition and reliable

  • Bus passes or other ride-share options to offer an alternative means of transportation when needed

  • Mandatory training sessions covering essential skills such as vehicle maintenance, budgeting, and finance, empowering these young adults to take control of their lives

  • A 'Pay it Forward' initiative will also be required from the young adults

By donating towards the 'Vehicles Empowering Hope' program, you are not only contributing to the well-being of former foster youth but also becoming a catalyst for positive change in our community. Your support can be the key to unlocking a brighter future for these resilient individuals. Together, let's make a lasting impact on the road to hope and empowerment.

***Phase 1 is the first phase in a 2 phase initiative, which will ultimately include vehicles for this often overlooked population.

Mission

UpsideDown Moments provides charitable services, to youth in foster care, at-risk youth, and former foster young adults in Loudoun County, Virginia, and surrounding areas. We provide support and resources to these vulnerable populations, helping them to thrive and succeed despite challenging circumstances.

Profile

It is UpsideDown Moments' goal to assist all groups of youth in meeting their basic needs, and in doing so, improving their self-confidence and well-being until their lives are upside right once again!

Children, who are placed into foster care many times, are moved from their homes with only the clothes on their backs.  It is during these moments of their lives they need to experience some normalcy, as everything ordinary has been turned upside down. Having a stuffed animal, toothbrush, 2 weeks of clothing, and books to forget about problems for a while, is therapeutic.  That is what we provide.

Family Liaisons within the school district may reach out to us asking for assistance with clothing and hygiene items for families with children who are experiencing financial insecurity.

Young adults, who have aged out of foster care, have a different need, one for household items, as they begin their new life adventure. UpsideDown Moments will assist in gathering furniture, decor, and other household items to set up their first "home".

In 2023, we were able to double the amount of youth and young adults we assisted. To see more details on the differences we were able to make this past year check out our Annual Impact Report.

Join us in making a difference in the lives of those who need it most
