Friends of Homeless Animals

Goal: $32,500.00

Specific Need

FOHA actively works to find dogs and cats that are at the greatest risk in partner shelters: heartworm positive dogs, senior dogs, and FIV+ cats. FOHA covers all the medical bills to make sure these animals are healthy and thriving prior to adoption. We need your help to fund medical costs and continue to rescue the most vulnerable dogs and cats.

In 2018, we launched our Senior Care Plan to ensure our senior dogs (age 8+) find loving homes despite potential adopter concerns about medical expenses. This plan covers unexpected costs by waiving adoption fees and reimbursing up to $1,500 in qualifying medical expenses or pet insurance premiums. Your support at Give Choose can help us continue this vital initiative and give these seniors the happy retirement they deserve. Today, we are asking for donations to help fund our specific programs, like the Senior Care Plan, to help those at-risk animals.

Mission

Home with us until they're home with you.  Dedicated to saving homeless dogs and cats, FOHA is a no-kill shelter that provides rescue, medical care, and adoption services in the Northern Virginia and Washington DC metropolitan areas.  For over 50 years, more than 17,000 cats and dogs have found a safe haven with FOHA.  FOHA relies on the support of volunteers and donations to continue our rescue efforts.  Friends of Homeless Animals is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Profile

The animals in FOHA’s care come from our partner shelters who believe that FOHA will give the dog or cat the best chance to find their forever family.  Each dog and cat that arrives is a member of the FOHA family until (and after) he or she finds a forever home with a new adoptive family.  FOHA’s dedicated team provides the love, care, and attention they deserve until a home can be found.

Located on 40 pastoral acres in Loudoun County, FOHA houses up to 65 dogs of all ages, shapes, and sizes. Many are mixed breeds, who make wonderful companions. FOHA also provides shelter for up to 30 cats and kittens in communal catteries, along with many other cats living in foster homes. FOHA also utilizes a network of foster volunteers to provide care for dogs and cats in foster homes.
