Goal: $4,800.00
Specific Need
To sustain the health and well-being of our sanctuary animal residents, we urgently need financial support to cover essential animal care costs, especially hay and feed, which are critical to maintaining proper weight and health for our large and small sanctuary animals, and ongoing veterinary care, which ensures preventative medicine, vaccines, treatments, emergency care, and farrier services.
Every dollar raised during Give Choose goes directly to the care of the animals residing at KHAS, helping us purchase hay bales, quality feed, supplements, medical treatments, and veterinary services.
Your support today means that our animals, many of whom came to us in poor health and with traumatic histories, can continue to live in a safe, nurturing, and healthy environment — where every animal is truly a keeper.
Mission
Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary exists to rescue, rehabilitate, and provide lifelong sanctuary to horses and companion animals in need, while fostering compassion through education, community outreach, and advocacy. Inspired by the belief that all animals are “keepers,” we honor their dignity through humane care, meaningful connections, and programs that empower future generations to protect animals and build a more compassionate, sustainable world.Profile
Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary (KHAS) is an emerging nonprofit dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and providing a safe, lifelong haven for horses and companion animals in need, while also serving as a resource for education, advocacy, and community engagement. Founded in 2022 by Sarah Graham, the sanctuary was inspired by her first rescue horse, Keeper—an underweight off-the-track Thoroughbred who required patience, understanding, and dedicated care. Through their journey together, Sarah learned the importance of listening to animals, meeting them where they are, and advocating for their long-term well-being.
Keeper’s retirement on Sarah’s family farm reflects a deep commitment to lifelong care and stands in stark contrast to the unfortunate reality faced by many horses once their riding or working careers end. Across the United States, approximately 100,000 horses are considered unwanted each year (American Horse Council, 2023). An estimated 90,000 of these horses are sold annually at auction, with many ultimately sent to slaughter—an industry responsible for the processing of roughly 80,000 horses each year (Miller et al., 2022). These sobering statistics underscore the urgent need for animal rescues and sanctuaries like KHAS, which provide compassionate alternatives through rescue, rehabilitation, and permanent sanctuary.
Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary was established to honor Keeper’s legacy and to change the narrative for animals in need—ensuring that every animal receives love, dignity, and safety for the rest of their lives. At the core of this mission is a belief in the transformative power of love, care, and compassion. Animals often arrive from heartbreaking circumstances, but with patience and dedication, they can heal both physically and emotionally. Sanctuaries serve as safe havens where animals are given a second chance to regain trust, health, and happiness, while reminding us of our shared responsibility to protect those who cannot advocate for themselves.
KHAS is also deeply committed to serving the local community by supporting animal welfare initiatives and promoting local businesses that prioritize ethical, sustainable practices and environmental stewardship. Central to our outreach efforts is Charlie, our ambassador miniature horse currently in therapy training. Through school visits, community events, and educational programming, Charlie helps raise awareness about the critical need for animal sanctuaries and rescue operations. He serves as a gentle, approachable teacher—helping children and adults alike learn compassion for animals and understand the importance of responsible, humane animal care.
By integrating compassion, education, community involvement, and environmental responsibility, Keeper’s Haven Animal Sanctuary strives to inspire meaningful change. Our goal is to expand our rescue capacity and educational outreach programs, empowering future generations to value and protect all animals. Sanctuaries like KHAS are vital community pillars—restoring hope for animals in need, fostering empathy, and building a more humane and sustainable future for both animals and the people who care for them.
