Specific Need
What does your donation go to?
Finanical support enables us to fund our programs and everything that makes them possible.
Our Programs
- Education (Year-round) -- Sharing ways you can prevent food waste in your kitchen, every day, online and in person (see our photos!)
- Fall & Winter Donation Collections (Nov 1 – Jan 31) – Collecting & redistributing food and educating others on how to give seasonal food and supplies like pumpkins and Christmas trees.
- Backyard Garden Collections (July 1 – Oct 31) – Helping those with extras find places to share their homegrown produce
- Year-Round Food Pantry Reclamation – Rescuing excess food from local pantries to give to animals for feed and avoid the landfill
Specifically, what does that look like?
- Showing up at farm markets and community events to educate & collect
- Maintaining and growing a list of farms and animal sanctuaries that you can find through our website
- Developing and sharing educational materials that help families waste less
If we don't fund these?
We lose our ability to show up publicly. No events. No education booths. No local visibility.
And when people don’t see us, donations drop. They forget.
Mission
Pumpkins For Pigs Foundation's mission is to prevent and reduce food waste in our communities by getting viable food, including pumpkins, to farms, animal sanctuaries, and rescues for feed or compost. "We reduce food waste one pumpkin at a time."
Profile
Turning Everyday Items into Impact
Pumpkins For Pigs helps people turn unwanted food and usable items into something meaningful — right here in Loudoun and Fauquier Counties and surrounding communities.
We make it easy to keep good things out of landfills by connecting neighbors with local farms and animal rescues that can use them.
Through our network of donation sites, individuals and businesses can give new purpose to:
-
Surplus fruits, vegetables, and pantry items
-
Pumpkins, hay, straw, and holiday trees
-
Kiddie pools and other practical supplies for animal care and mental enrichment
What might be waste to one household can be incredibly valuable to a farm or sanctuary.
Educating that Leads to Action
We don’t just collect donations; we help people waste less in the first place. Through simple, practical education on meal planning, smart shopping, and composting, we help families make small changes that add up over time. Our goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping people take one better step.
Building Stronger Communities
At our core, we believe in collaboration between people, animals, and local businesses. We work with small businesses, farms, and rescues fueling a movement of sustainability and support. When communities know where to donate and why it matters, they show up. And when they do, animals are fed, resources are saved, and waste is reduced.
Our Donation Programs
We make food rescue simple through three key programs:
- Backyard Garden Donations (July 1 – Oct 31) – Sharing extra homegrown produce.
- Fall & Winter Donations (Nov 1 – Jan 31) – Collecting post-holiday food and supplies like pumpkins and Christmas trees
- Year-Round Food Pantry Reclamation – Rescuing excess food from local pantries.
Why It Matters
Food waste is a big problem-- 35% of all food isn't eaten. Local solutions make it manageable.
By connecting people who want to help with places that can benefit, we’re building a more practical, compassionate approach to sustainability — one neighborhood at a time.
Together, we can waste less and do more good with what we already have.
