Arc of Loudoun

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

The Arc of Loudoun advocates for, educates, serves, and supports people with disabilities, their families, and the professionals who work with them. Our wrap-around approach enables The Arc to serve more than 5,000 people of all ages with disabilities of all kinds each year.

Since 1967, we’ve been a constant voice for disability rights—advocating at the local, state, and national levels to protect and defend the rights of individuals with disabilities. Today—and every day—we continue our work to build a just, equitable world for people with disabilities.

Your Gift Supports Disability Rights
Your support is critical. It ensures the voices of people with disabilities are heard in policies, programs, and community decisions. No gift is too small—every contribution helps move us closer to a more just, equitable world for people with disabilities.

  • Your gift of $25 provides school supplies for students at Aurora School.
  • Your gift of $50 helps people with disabilities to be treated fairly and given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
  • Your gift of $100 helps people with disabilities and their families overcome barriers and gain access to essential services.
  • Your gift of $250 provides Bridge the Gap funds for students, clients, and families to attend our programs and receive emergency assistance.
  • Your gift of $600 provides one month enrollment for a client at Ability Fitness Center.
  • Your gift of $1,000 ensures life-changing support for families struggling to overcome the financial challenges of navigating life with a disability.

Disability impacts all of us.
1 in 4 adults in the US have some type of disability and 1 in 36 children in the US is diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (source CDC).
According to the 2022 American Community Survey, 30,373 (7.1%) Loudoun County residents have at least one type of disability. People with disabilities often face many hurdles as they attempt to live their lives as fully engaged, active members of society. The Arc of Loudoun works to support individuals and families navigating overwhelming experiences.

Mission

Our mission is to advocate for, educate, serve, and support people with disabilities and their families.

Our vision is a lifetime of opportunities for people with disabilities.

Our goal is a just, equitable world for people with disabilities.

Profile

The Arc of Loudoun serves the most vulnerable and underserved people in our region: children and adults with disabilities, their families, and professionals who support their potential.

Integrated Centers of Excellence
Our services challenge students and clients to achieve personal excellence and independence; deliver therapies to enhance movement, communication, daily living skills, and behavior development, promoting greater independence and overall well-being;
foster the essential skills that support academic achievement, social development, and overall health; and assure fair and equitable treatment of people with disabilities in their communities.

  • Ability Fitness Center anchors The Arc’s Center for Adaptive Fitness & Wellness. Led by Physical Therapists and serving people of all ages with neurological and developmental disabilities, AFC is an adaptive gym that provides innovative, customized, and activity-based interventions designed to generate the greatest level of independence possible.
  • Aurora School, accredited by the VDOE and VAISEF, is the cornerstone of The Arc’s Center for Adaptive Education. Aurora is a year-round, K-12 Special Education day school that provides individualized, 1:1 instruction for students aged 5-22 with intellectual and developmental disabilities using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Ally Advocacy Center is the backbone of The Arc’s Center for Disability Advocacy. Through free consultations, workshops, and training, Ally provides information on disability rights, benefits, and entitlements, offers guidance and support, and facilitates community connections for people with disabilities of all ages and their families.

The Arc of Loudoun Defines a Disability

A disability is as any condition that prevents, delays, or interferes with a person’s typical development or optimal achievement. A disability may be classified as behavioral/emotional, developmental, intellectual, learning, physical, and/or sensory. Disabilities may be temporary—as when a person is healing from a broken bone, and disabilities may be invisible—as when someone is experiencing mental illness.

The Arc of Loudoun Advocates
As a member of The Arc of Virginia and The Arc of US as well close partners with The Arc of Northern Virginia we work to advocate for disability rights at the local, state, and national levels. Our goal is to secure the full range of human and civil rights for individuals with disabilities. Your donation fuels the fight to protect and expand critical disability supports to ensure a just, equitable world for people with disabilities.
